KitchenAid Appliances – Introduction

KitchenAid make kitchen appliances, cookware and accessories. Their roots stretch back to 1908, when Herbert Johnson invented an 80-quart mixer for Hobart Manufacturing in Ohio, where he worked. This later caught on with professional bakers and in 1919 the KitchenAid brand was born with the introduction of the H-5 ‘food preparer’ mixer.

In the 1920s, the need for smaller appliances became obvious and the H-5 was replaced by a lighter, more compact mixer. The 1930s saw the company produce a range of affordable, excellent quality models, including the first KitchenAid mixer to come complete with attachments, in 1937.

In 1949 KitchenAid introduced its first home dishwasher, and the 1950s saw KitchenAid become more adventurous with the colours of its appliances, as the company brought out items in chrome, copper, pink, yellow and green. In the mid-80s KitchenAid began to expand its range to include a greater variety of kitchen appliances, including toasters. Today their high quality standards and great retro designs make KitchenAid’s appliances more popular than ever.
